Build a solid foundation in wheel throwing and the basics of hand building through Roberson Clayworks’ Beginner Pottery classes (offered in the Fall and Summer). The course is geared for students with no clay experience or for those who have taken a class and would like to continue to improve their skills.
The entire ceramic process will be covered, including glazing and firing techniques. Students benefit from taking this class more than once.
Students will receive 25 pounds of clay as part of the cost of the class. Additional clay may be purchased when needed for $24 for a 25 pound bag. Included is studio time outside of class along with all firings and glazes.
*Each course has a limit of 10 openings. Students 17 years and older are welcome to register. All students must be registered. No substitutes may be sent to class.
*All sales are final. No refunds will be given.
*Roberson Museum and Science Center and Clayworks are not responsible for firing any student pieces once a class semester is over. The studio is not responsible for any items left behind.
Registration for the Fall Pottery Classes has closed.
Look out for registration for the Spring Pottery Class sometime in the New Year.
A Little Bit About Our Classes
Students at Roberson Clayworks explore a wide variety of forms and methods. It is gratifying to drink your morning coffee out of a mug you threw yourself, or to serve dinner to your family on an array of dinner plates of your own design and handiwork. Other students choose to focus on more abstract creations rather than functional pieces, drawing their inspiration from nature and the world surrounding them.
We have a well-equipped studio to meet the needs of beginning to advanced potters.
Each participant works at their own potter’s wheel using clay provided by the studio. A wide variety of tools and glazes are available to refine creative expression.
