Arts Adventure

Thank you to everyone who attended Arts Adventure on Sunday, March 24, 2019.

We were so happy to be able to bring such a fun, family event to the Binghamton area. We hope to see you again in 2020 for another day filled with performances and artsy activities! For anyone who missed the window to RSVP, consider signing up to receive notifications of events from the participating organizations of Arts Adventure.

Arts Adventure is an arts education collaboration amongst area Arts organizations:

Binghamton Philharmonic, the Goodwill Theatre, the Roberson Museum and Science Center, and the Tri-Cities Opera. This collaborative project is underwritten through a grant from the Conrad and Virginia Klee Foundation.

Scheduled Events:

Binghamton Philharmonic

Binghamton Philharmonic presents an interactive Peter and the Wolf for woodwind quintet. Children will hear the story of Peter and his friends the duck, bird, cat, grandpa, and wolf, each character performed by one instrument. After the performance, kids will be encouraged to explore the instruments themselves, with activities to mimic performing on an instrument, and a show and tell from the performers.

Goodwill Theatre’s Schorr Family Firehouse Stage

Goodwill Theatre’s Schorr Family Firehouse Stage will offer two alternating exhibitions and plenty of chances for interactive play. Children will marvel at the gravity-defying juggling and unicycling skills of Will Stafford, juggler extraordinaire, then enjoy a participatory musical pirate performance by The Crimson Pirates, where they help write the story. It’s fun for all – the young and the young at heart!

Tri-Cities Opera

Tri-Cities Opera performers (four singers and one pianist) will be performing 10-15 minute segments of Goldie B. Locks and the Three Singing Bears by John Davies (set to the music of Mozart and Offenbach), followed by a Q&A talk back after each segment. Photo ops with the cast, set, and various props/costume pieces will also be offered. The full show is 45 minutes, but by offering it in smaller segments, more children will be able to experience opera and then move on to other performances and activities. Children that are particularly interested in this performance will be able to attend multiple segments.

Roberson Museum and Science Center

Roberson Museum and Science Center is proud to host the afternoon of exploration as children are introduced to a variety of dynamic and engaging arts programming. Roberson will provide educational hands-on activities designed around the themes of the musical performances taking place in our galleries. Children will be able to make origami pirate hats that they can wear right into the Goodwill Theatre’s musical comedy performance of The Crimson Pirates. Or they can make their own teddy bears to act out their own version of Tri-Cities Opera’s Goldie B. Locks and the Three Singing Bears. Other creative activities plus a very special musical planetarium show will allow children to have their own arts adventure.

Arts Adventure is made possible by generous support from the Klee Foundation and The Rotary Club of Binghamton and with volunteers from Visions Federal Credit Union.

Support provided by the general operations support grants from the United Cultural Fund, a program of the Broome County Arts Council; the Conrad and Virginia Klee Foundation; the Zoos, Botanical Gardens and Aquariums Program, administered by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreational, and Historical Preservation; and the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
