Roberson Museum and Science Center will host a Civil War Living History Weekend May 12-13 featuring cannon and musket firings, encampment settings, Civil War soldiers, tea with the Lincolns and more.  The activities highlight The Civil War exhibition on display at Roberson.

Events and demonstrations will take place between 10am – 4pm on both Saturday and Sunday.  Participants include Union and Confederate soldiers, a fife and drum corps, and living history presenters representing generals, a pastor, a blacksmith and President and Mrs. Lincoln. 

On Saturday guests can experience what life during the Civil War was like by visiting our encampment near our parking lot.  There will be musket and cannon demonstrations, camp sites, soldiers, drummers and more.  On Sunday visitors can meet Generals of the Civil War, join us for Tea with the Lincolns in the Mansion and learn about fashion of the time.  Guests are encouraged to explore The Civil War exhibition during their visit.

There is no charge for attending outside activities on Saturday.  Inside activities and demonstrations on both Saturday and Sunday are free with General Admission to Roberson.  Admission is $8 for Adults, $6 for students/seniors, members are free.

Your tickets for the show will be held at the door the night of the performance.  We will not be mailing out tickets.

Roberson Hosting 12^th Annual Wine & Food Fest

Roberson Museum and Science Center will host its 12^th Annual Wine & Food Fest Thursday, April 19 from 5:30 – 8:30pm.  The Annual Wine & Food Fest is Roberson’s largest fundraising effort and the event is widely touted as the best wine and food tasting in the Southern Tier.

Guests enjoy wine, beer and food tastings from our area’s best.  The event features hundreds of wines from over 30 New York State wineries, and scrumptious selections from over 30 of the Southern Tier’s finest restaurants and caterers.  Celebrate a true rite of spring as Roberson fills its floors, galleries and outdoor courtyard with hundreds of guests treated to a spectacular array of wine and food.  A selection of microbrews and an auction will also be featured. 

Last year’s event was sold out with nearly 700 people in attendance, so the public is encouraged to get tickets early.  Advance tickets are $40 for Roberson Members and $45 for non-members.  Tickets are $50 on the day of the event.  Tickets are available online at www.roberson.org, in person at Roberson Museum and Science Center or by calling 772-0660.  You must be at least 21 years old to attend the event.

Roberson Museum and Science Center will hold the Official Grand Opening Reception for its new Expanded Model Train Layout Saturday, March 31 from 1-4pm.    

The event celebrates a major project that has tripled the size of Roberson’s Model Train Layout and relocated it to a permanent spot on the museum’s first floor.  Visitors can explore the new layout depicting local landscapes of Binghamton, Endicott, Owego, Johnson City and Susquehanna in the 1950s.

Activities during the reception include the ability to paint small model figures that can fit within the layout, face painting, concessions and much more.  There’s even an opportunity to be part of the display by buying “real estate” on Roberson’s new layout.

Reduced Reception Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors/Students.  Roberson Members and children 4 and under are Free.

Remarks will be made at 2:30 to recognize all who have been a part of the expansion project.

The Expanded Model Train Layout project has involved over a year’s worth of VOLUNTEER work, generous contributions and support from local individuals and community business partners.  Volunteers including electricians, carpenters, engineers and hobbyists have put in over 2,400 hours of work during the layout expansion. 

Roberson’s Expanded Model Train Layout is sponsored by an anonymous donation, Woodland Scenics, Classic Metal Works, IBM, Village Train & Hobby, Walthers, Olum’s, Joe and Janice Smith and our generous volunteers for their contributions to this fantastic project.

With the help of Christine Lantz from WSKG, Roberson has been able to document the progress of a major project to TRIPLE the size of our Model Train Layout. It has involved over a year’s worth of VOLUNTEER work — 2,200+ hours, and generous contributions from local individuals and business sponsors. Forensic Science: Crime Scene Investigations

Explore the exciting world of forensic science including crime scene investigation, evidence analysis, witness interrogation and fingerprinting! At the end of the camp students conduct a trial with a jury of parents where they attempt to prove their case using the evidence they have collected.

Roberson Museum and Science Center is celebrating the life and talents of the late Armondo Dellasanta with a compelling display of nearly 100 original Dellasanta works in its newest exhibition, Armondo Dellasanta Remembered.

Dellasanta, a remarkable talent and one of our region’s most celebrated painters, died in December of 2010 at the age of 94. 

In a career that spanned seven decades of painting, Dellasanta documented the life, times and soul of our region.  Armondo Dellasanta Remembered celebrates that vibrant spirit. 

Drawn from a number of local public and private collections, the exhibition features many works that have never before been shown in public.

Armondo Dellasanta Remembered is on display at Roberson through October 28, 2012.
